8TH ANNUAL YMCA INVITATIONAL SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Tobago YMCA in conjunction with Division of Sports and Youth Affairs held the 8th Edition of the Tobago YMCA Invitational Swimming Championships on the 24th – 25th August, 2019. The swimming championships hosted over 200 young and eager swim competitors from 11 swim teams across Trinidad and Tobago.
The 8th Annual YMCA Invitational featured National Athletes, Competitive Swimmers and Developmental swimmers from all teams that participated. The Invitational saw the support of Atlantis Aquatics Swim Club, Blue Dolphin Swim Club, Flying Fish Swim Club, Marlins Swim Club, Sea Hawks Swim Club, RWB Aquatic Academy, Tidal Wave Aquatics of T&T, Trident Aquatics of T&T, Tsunami Swim Club, Point Fortin Aqua Darts and home team, the Tobago YMCA Aqua Warriors.
At the end of the two-day swimming championship Flying Fish Swim Club from Trinidad emerged as the overall winners of the championships followed closely by Point Fortin Aqua Darts and home-team Tobago YMCA Aqua Warriors.
Local winners from the Tobago YMCA Aqua Warriors were, in the competitive category, national swimmer Jacob Cox who placed 3rd overall in the 11-12 Boys age group category. In the developmental category Inez Thomas and bother Edwyn Thomas both claimed the top spots winning the 13 & Over Girls and Boys age group category respectively. Teammates Timothy Clarke placed 2nd overall in the 13 & Over Boys age group category, Israel Jordan placed 2nd overall in the 8 & Under Boys age group category and Tamia Peterkin placed 3rd overall in the 9-10 Girls age group category.
The YMCA Invitational is one of the premier swimming championships on the island of Tobago. At this invitational championship, all swimmers can participate and showcase their talents learned in all of the Learn-to-Swim Programs and by extension, all swimming programmes throughout Trinidad and Tobago.
