Tobago YMCA Aqua Warriors swimmer, Ornella Walker, returns home with a Silver and Bronze medal performance at the XXXI Central American and Caribbean Championships (CCCAN). The championships which hosted over 28 participating countries recently concluded on July 4th, 2018 at the Piscina Olimpico Roly Bisslik, Savaneta, Aruba.
The Team from Trinidad and Tobago which was co-captained by Walker won the overall title of XXXI CCCAN Swimming Champions 2018 with an overall score of 649.50 beating Columbia (584) and host country Aruba (561.50). Team Trinidad and Tobago also returned with a total medal haul of 54 (14 Gold, 26 Silver, 14 Bronze).
Ornella Walker along with her teammates Illeana Bocage, Racine Ross and Jada Chatoor raced to a Silver Medal in the 400 meter Medley Relay event clocking a time of 4:33.89 behind the winning team from Colombia (4:30.83). Additionally, Walker also claimed Bronze in the 50-meter Backstroke event clocking a time of 30.43 behind Danielle Titus of Barbados (30.33) and Madelyn Moore of Bermuda (30.23).
In the 100-meter Backstroke event, Walker, placed 5th clocking a time of 1:09.26 and in the 200-meter Backstroke event, she placed 7th clocking a time of 2:34.01.
The selected team of 32 national swimmers are scheduled to arrive back in Trinidad on July 5th, where all swimmers would be preparing for the ASATT National Age Group Short Course Championships carded for July 11th – 15th, 2018.
The next national championships would be used as a main qualifier for the national Goodwill Team 2018 scheduled to be held in Barbados this August 2018 and a qualifier for the 14th FINA World Swimming Championships in Hangzhou, China this December 2018.
