The Tobago YMCA Aqua warriors who competed at the ASATT National Age Group Long Course Championships which took place from February 21st – 25th at the National Aquatic Centre in Balmain, Couva returned home with seven medals (5 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze).
The team which formed the Tobago contingent from the YMCA consisted of national swimmer Jacob Cox, national swimmer Ornella Walker, Dante Williams and John Procope under the guidance of head coach Mosi Denoon and asst. coach Rochelle Pierre.
John Procope claimed three gold medals at the championships placing 1st in the 50-meter breaststroke, 100-meter breaststroke and 200-meter Individual medley events. Additionally, Procope, in the Boys 18 & over category, placed 4th in the 100-meter freestyle event, 5th in the 50-meter butterfly event and 6th in the 50-meter Freestyle event.
Ornella Walker, in the Girls 15 – 17 category, also claimed three medals at this swim championships claiming Gold in the 100-meter backstroke event clocking a Carifta B Qualifying time, Silver in the 200-meter Backstroke event and Bronze in the 50-meter freestyle event.
Jacob Cox, in the Boys 9 – 10 category, claimed Gold in the 100-meter Breaststroke event. Furthermore, Cox went on to place 4th in the 50-meter Backstroke and 100-meter Butterfly event, 5th in the 50-meter Breaststroke, 100-meter Freestyle, 200-meter Freestyle and the 200-meter Individual Medley and 6th in the 50-meter Freestyle, 50-meter Butterfly and 100-meter Backstroke events.
Dante Williams, in the Boys 15 – 17 category, placed third in the 50-meter Freestyle B-Finals. Also, Williams placed 5th in the 100-meter Butterfly, 6th in the 400-meter Freestyle event, 8th in the 200-meter Freestyle and 12th in the 50-meter Butterfly and 100-meter Freestyle events.
The Tobago YMCA Aqua Warriors fought courageously and competed valiantly against their competitors at the recently concluded National Age Group Long Course Championships/ Carifta Trails. Also, the Aqua Warriors would like to say a special thank you to the Division of Sports and Youth Affairs for their support of our young swimmers.
