The Tobago YMCA Aqua Warriors held it’s second fundraising venture for 2019 in the form of a Bake and Fish Fundraising Sale on March 30th, 2019 which included a variety of fish choices for supporting patrons. As per usual, the majestic Lionfish was the most important and highly desired fish in the assortment.
From as early as 6:45am on Saturday morning, patrons were lined up to collect their breakfast. The breakfast sale saw the support of Assemblyman Sheldon Cunningham, Assistant Secretary of Infrastructure, Quarries and the Environment, Fr. Leslie Tang-Kai, Parish Priest of the Roman Catholic Church and local business owners Mr. Rohan McKain of Overhang Lounge and Mr. Garrett McKellar of Exquisite Local Drinks, just to name a few.
The main purpose of the fundraising venture was to raise funds in aid of supporting the daily operational expenses of the club and to assist in funding swimmers to attend local, regional and international swimming championships.
The lionfish, known as voracious eaters, prey mainly on small fish and crustaceans and they have the potential to reduce the abundance of ecologically important species such as parrotfish and other herbivorous fishes that keep seaweeds and macroalgae from overgrowing corals. The Lionfish are a particular concern for the health of Atlantic coral reefs.
The Tobago YMCA Aqua Warriors would like to say a special thank you to all the patrons who participated and supported the Aqua Warriors Bake and Fish fundraising sale. A Special mention and Thank you must be given to Frontier Divers Ltd, Den-Den’s Catering, Omari Walker of Peter’s Fresh Fish and Exquisite Local Drinks.
